The 26th Tokyo Motor Show 1985

1985.10.31-11.11 (at Harumi)

The year 1985 marked the 100th anniversary of the production of the first vehicle equipped with a gasoline engine. "The Culture of Motoring: The New Generation of Vehicles" was chosen as the most suitable theme for an international motor show in this significant year to learn from history and look to the future. The 26th Tokyo Motor Show accommodated a record-high 1,032 exhibited vehicles in extended space. Concept cars, the so-called Next-Generation Cars, were displayed by 8 companies of the total of 9 passenger car manufacturers. In addition to the new technologies such as the DOHC engine, 4-valve engine, 4WD and 4WS systems, carmakers showcased many mid-ship engine layout and open body in the exhibits. In this year's show, reference models were clearly grouped into two categories: a show model which was equipped with a full range of latest technologies, and a prototype which would be released onto the market in the future. Meanwhile, Cadillac's right-hand-drive model was highlighted at the popular foreign car hall.
